ORIENTEERING
LEAPS Mystery Orienteering Challenge, Hardwick Hall
This event took place at Hardwick Park, Sedgefield on Sunday 28th August, we had a few families take part in the event and those that took part mentioned that they thoroughly enjoyed the activity.
From the entries handed in we selected the ones that had the most correct and detailed answers and then drew a winner from these.
The winners were the Flynn family from Norton, who said that they were surprised and excited to have won the prize - a family ticket to Hardwick Parks Halloween event on Friday the 28th of October 2011.
Calvert Trust Keswick
While at the ‘Calvert Trust’ at Keswick, members of LEAPS tried various activities, one of which was orienteering.
Thanks to a versatile staff member who consulted with our group, he managed to adapt this activity to the specific needs of our different disabilities.
This meant that all the group were able to enjoy something which they had never tried before. It even allowed for visually impaired members to take part using a ‘tactile’ map.
An activity created by staff at the Calvert Trust for our specific needs, wonderful!!
Situated at the foot of Skiddaw and on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, The Lake District Calvert Trust provides challenging residential outdoor activity courses for people with physical, sensory and/or learning disabilities. The Calvert Trust website can be found at www.calvert-trust.org.uk.
